Another foggy morning in SaPa; our guide has signaled a 9am start so that some of the fog will burn off. “Burn off” is an interesting concept – since there is a pall of smoke from cooking fires and agricultural clearing that seems to hand here all the time. In fact, my spacious room has a cute balcony overlooking the valley – but we’re just downwind from the cooking fires of the nearby tin-roofed huts .
There are few nondomesticated birds here – although there are beautiful bird calls all the time. The birds with the glorious voices are almost always in cages.
Here’s a photo of a giant moth on the outside of my hotel window last night
Don't forget to let the birds out of their cages before you go!
